Our Story
Born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Nelia Deiz is the founder of Island Blends, an all-purpose seasoning that brings the savory, herbaceous flavors of the Virgin Islands to your kitchen. Her seasoning blend is inspired by her mother who loved to cook for her family. For every meal, Nelia’s mother would reach right outside her kitchen to their herb garden for thyme, oregano, garlic, peppers, basil and more.
After moving to the States, Nelia wanted to recreate the flavor her family used in the Islands. She started experimenting with dry herbs due to the different climate in the Midwest, and continued to build her special blend over the years.
Once Nelia retired as a Psychiatric Social Work Director, her grandson kept telling her that she needed to let other people taste her seasoning, so she began making larger batches for friends. When her friends kept asking for more of the seasoning, Nelia started selling her seasoning at farmers markets and would sell out immediately.
With over 30 herbs and spices, Island Blends is different from any other seasoning you would find in your local grocery store. You can use it everyday to enhance flavors of your savory food, like poultry, fish, beef, soups, stews, omelets, casseroles and more.
